Mon Dessein - Dessein means Purpose/Goal in French but it is also a wordplay as it is pronounced “des seins” which means breasts.
So this is a story of my health, my journey of breast cancer giving me a new purpose.
I received a lot of support and messages from friends and family and while I really appreciated the attention, I found it sometimes difficult to answer everyone in a timely manner if at all.
So I decided that the easiest medium from which I can keep you up to date on my journey will be this blog.
THE FACTS
As my family has a high risk of breast cancer, I regularly have routine checks.
Unfortunately, this time the MRI showed 3 abnormal masses and one of them was assessed via a biopsy at the end of May 2024.
The result is a triple negative stage 3 breast cancer in the right breast.
THE SLAM
This diagnosis was a slam to my face, me, a healthy 42 year old woman and mother of two beautiful young kids. Hearing the news and the proceeding days and weeks as I started to understand the cancer, was like dealing with grief. First I was in denial and thought a small surgery would do. But then when I understood the diagnosis and the treatment required, I was angry and very sad too. The last step will be acceptance and I’m not sure I have reached it yet.
THE TREATMENT
Treatment = Surgery (Double mastectomy + lymph node biopsies with reconstruction) followed by chemo.
The surgery is happening on the 2nd of August. 3 days at the hospital. 4-6 weeks of recovery. Second phase of treatment (Chemotherapy) will be determined by the pathology results on the 15th of August.

We don't want it to be melodramatic but we don't want it to be a taboo either. Our kids are fully aware of what is happening and are kept in the loop regularly, so please feel free to talk to your own kids if they are seeing our kids. And feel free to ask if there is anything you feel uncomfortable about.

J'ai reçu beaucoup de soutien et de messages de vous tous, famille et amis, et bien que j'ai vraiment apprécié l'attention, j'ai parfois trouvé difficile de répondre à tout le monde de manière rapide, voire de répondre du tout.
J’ai donc décidé que le moyen le plus simple pour vous tenir au courant de mon parcours serait ce blog sur l'histoire de ma santé, de mon parcours avec le cancer du sein.
**LES FAITS**
Comme ma famille a un risque élevé de cancer du sein, je passe régulièrement des contrôles de routine. Malheureusement, cette fois-ci, l'IRM a montré trois masses anormales, et l’une d’elles a été évaluée par une biopsie à la fin du mois de mai 2024. Le résultat est un cancer du sein triple négatif au stade 3 dans le sein droit.
**LE COUP DE MASSUE**
Ce diagnostic a été un coup de massue pour moi, une femme de 42 ans en bonne santé et mère de deux beaux jeunes enfants. Les phases par lesquelles je suis passée les jours et semaines suivants ce verdict ont été similaires à celles d’un deuil. D'abord, j'étais dans le déni et pensais qu'une petite intervention chirurgicale suffirait. Mais ensuite, quand j'ai compris le diagnostic et le traitement nécessaire, j'étais choquée, puis en colère et très triste aussi. La dernière étape est l'acceptation et je ne suis pas sûre de l'avoir encore atteinte.
**LE TRAITEMENT**
Traitement = Chirurgie (Mastectomie bilatérale + biopsies des ganglions lymphatiques avec reconstruction) suivie de chimiothérapie.
La chirurgie aura lieu le 2 août. 3 jours à l'hôpital. 4 à 6 semaines de récupération. La deuxième phase du traitement (chimiothérapie) sera déterminée par les résultats de la pathologie le 15 août.
